“I’ve always enjoyed exercising, but it was about 10 years ago that I decided to try strength training. Initially, I was hesitant, I found the idea quite daunting and intimidating – not to mention the muscle soreness I experienced the next day! But as with many aspects of life (annoying, I know), I discovered that consistency really is key. With regular practice, it didn’t take long for me to notice improvements and with each session leaving me feeling stronger, I quickly fell in love with weight training!

Here’s a few reasons why strength training is beneficial for women:

  • It helps to build muscle strength & tone. Beyond aesthetic changes, everyday tasks become easier, and there’s a sense of achievement that comes with being stronger.
  • It has been shown to improve mental health by reducing symptoms of depression & anxiety. It can also boost self-esteem & mood.
  • It can help in managing symptoms associated with menopause, like mood swings, weight gain, & decreased bone density.
  • Post-pregnancy, strength training can help women regain abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, and improve energy levels.

I’m sharing this today to hopefully encourage any of you who are interested in starting strength training to pick up the weights – start small with light weights and low reps & watch yourself get stronger with each session, the endorphin hit is like no other! I’ve learned that gyms are often welcoming environments, filled with people who are more than willing to offer help and guidance. The most important step is to simply start.
